The City’s Sustainable Procurement Policy went into effect in January 2018. This means that in addition to looking at price, quality and service, the City will also consider the sustainable practices of a vendor during the procurement process.
This policy helps the City make more sustainable choices when it comes to buying products and services from external vendors.
Requirements for vendors
There are different requirements for current City vendors and new vendors or contracts:
Vendors with existing contracts
If you currently have a contract with the City, the existing terms and conditions will continue to apply for the term of your contract.
New vendors and contracts
If you’re placing a new bid, your bidding documents will include any applicable sustainability requirements. These requirements may relate to environmental practices and treating workers fairly, depending on the type of goods or services you provide.
To be considered for new contracts you will need to accept and comply with the Supplier Code of Conduct. We’ll work with you to make sure you are aware of the policy and how you can meet the sustainability requirements.
During the bidding process
When you fill out your bidding documents, you may need to answer a few questions about your sustainability policies or the potential benefits of your products and services.
You may also need to provide copies of any applicable company policies or proof of a third party certification like an eco-label or fair trade certification.
