Summer camps

Following the Provincial Government and Public Health guidelines The City of Mississauga has made the difficult decision to cancel all previously scheduled Recreation Programs (including summer camp) for July and August.

As the Province begins to open businesses, we understand that some parents will need childcare options over the summer. On June 9, the Chief Medical officer of Health and the Provincial government announced that summer day camps across the province can re-open with strict health and safety protocols in place.

In an effort to support families in Mississauga, we will now offer a modified version of our popular Summer Fun Camp, aligning with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines. As group sizes will be much smaller and there are room capacities in place to support physical distancing, the number of spaces available this summer will be significantly reduced. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to provide additional information.

Frequently Asked Questions

All scheduled Culture & Recreation programs (registered and drop-in) for summer 2020 have been cancelled. This includes, but is not limited to Aquatic programs and lessons; sports programs/leagues; preschool, children, youth (including camp), adult and older adult programming.

Our current program menu while safe and fun did not meet the current requirement of re-opening, including physical distancing and smaller group sizes. Therefore we had to make the difficult decision to cancel programming to ensure future programs would comply with the Government of Ontario regulations with the health and safety of our community as the priority.

During this time, all previously registered summer recreation programs will be cancelled, and credits placed on accounts. Credits will appear on all accounts by Wednesday, June 17. To request a refund after the credit is applied, log in to your Active Mississauga account. Go to ‘Manage Account’ and select ‘Request a Refund’. This will be the quickest way for you to receive a refund.

Alternatively, you can request a refund by completing the refund request form. Customers are asked to please be patient as refunds may take up to two weeks to display on your credit card statement, depending on your financial institution or credit card provider. Cheques may be issued for some refunds pending original payment type. Should you have any questions, please email us at

With the cancellation of all summer camps, every participant will be required to register in the new program. With the new provincial and public health requirements, camp spaces are limited. No carryover registration can occur.

Summer Fun Camp will start on July 6, 2020. Additional information will be provided to registered families in an ‘All About Camp’ document before the camp start date.

As the province opens up and parents start to return to work we want to ensure there is a safe environment for their children. We will be offering a Summer Fun Camp for campers between the ages of 4.5 years to 10 years at select facilities. To align with the health and safety guidelines and to support physical distancing we will have limited spaces that will be offered on a first come first serve basis.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Camp registration opens Monday, June 22 at 8:30 AM for residents of Mississauga on Active Mississauga.  Non-resident registration will be available as of Monday, June 29.

Additional information regarding our new health & safety processes will be provided to registered families in an All About Camp document before the camp start date. As an example, in accordance with the Province’s Ministry of Health guidelines for Summer Day Camps, some of the steps we will be taking include:

  • Groups of no more than 10 people, including City staff
  • One group per program space
  • Groups will not be able to integrate with other groups or be in the same program space at any time
  • Increased sanitization of high touch points throughout each location
  • Increased hand washing for staff and children
  • Increased sanitization of program equipment at each location

Summer Fun Camps will be offered at all major Community Centres in addition to Port Credit Arena and Meadowvale Village Hall.

Summer Fun Camp will allow small groups of children to enjoy fun and creative physically-distanced sports, games and crafts this summer, with activities held outdoors whenever possible.
