Rules, policies and information about travelling on MiWay.

Masks required

Effective June 16, 2021, the Mandatory Face Mask By-Law, previously named the Mandatory Face Covering By-Law has been amended and extended to September 30, 2021.

It is mandatory to wear a mask on board buses and inside terminal buildings under the City’s Mandatory Mask By-Law.

A non-medical mask should be made of at least two layers of tightly woven fabric, with a recommended third middle layer of filter-type material. The mask should:

  • Fit well, cover the nose, mouth and chin without gaps
  • Fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops
  • Maintain its shape after cleaning.

A medical mask such as surgical mask, N95 or other masks required by health-care workers may be used but are not required.

Face coverings such as face shields, scarves, bandanas, neck gaiters or neck warmers are no longer permitted based on the advice from Peel Public Health.


Smoking or vaping is not permitted on MiWay buses, at bus stops or at bus terminals.

Alcohol and hazardous substances

Toxic, flammable or hazardous substances are not permitted on MiWay buses, at bus stops or at bus terminals. Consuming alcohol or illegal drugs is not permitted on MiWay buses, at bus stops or at bus terminals.


Pets such as cats and dogs are allowed on MiWay, but they must be leashed or kept in an animal cage. Exotic animals are not allowed.

Clothing and sports gear

Shirts and shoes must be worn on board all buses. You are not allowed to wear in-line skates, roller skates, ice skates or use a skateboard or e-scooter on a bus, in a bus shelter or at bus terminals.

Stand behind the line

When boarding, move toward the back of the bus. You must remain behind the line for safety purposes.
