In 2017:

  • 66% of structure fires occurred in residential occupancies
  • 100% of all fire related fatalities occurred in residential occupancies
  • 83% of all fire related injuries occurred in residential occupancies
  • 33% of fires were caused by careless smoking, candles and other misuse
  • 61% of reported fires were unintentional
  • 14% of all fires were caused by mechanical or electrical failure
