Smart City Idea Jam Focuses on Using Technology to Build an Accessible and Inclusive City

On Saturday, November 30, the City of Mississauga is hosting the SMRTCTY Idea Jam in collaboration with Mississauga Library. The event will focus on engaging the community to develop creative ideas using technology to make the City’s services more accessible and inclusive.

The SMRTCTY Idea Jam will feature speakers and a brainstorming workshop that are open to the public.

The talks will include topics on technology, accessibility and inclusion at the City, highlighted by keynote speaker Ricardo Wagner, Microsoft Accessibility Lead.

The idea jam workshop will offer participants a chance to work on a challenge based on building an accessible and inclusive city. In teams, participants will develop solutions to the challenge with mentorship from industry professionals and instructors. At the end of the event, teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and prizes will be awarded to the top entries.

In addition, there will be information booths from Microsoft, CNIB, ICUBE UTM, Hackernest Mississauga, EDGE Sheridan College, ESRI and RICC.

Background
The SMRTCTY Idea Jam is a key event from the SMRTCTY Master Plan, which focuses on ongoing public engagement through the Centre for Civic Curiosity. The event is presented by the Mississauga Library in collaboration with the City’s Accessibility Planning Team and Information Technology Division.
