New Director of Internal Audit Joins the City of Mississauga

The City of Mississauga is pleased to announce Luis Souza as the new Director, Internal Audit effective January 8, 2020. He replaces Al Steinbach who retired early this year.

“Luis will be joining the City Manager’s Office heading up our internal Audit Division,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “He brings a wide range of experience and knowledge in both the public sector as well as many private companies.  I’m looking forward to having Luis support the organization with his broad experience in all areas of audit, risk and internal control.”

Souza has had a successful career in both the private and public sectors, most recently as director, internal audit with ABC Technologies, an automotive parts manufacturer and as general auditor with Hydro One. His career includes a director role in Brazil with Banco Bilbao Vyzcaia Argentaria, managing compliance oversight with Genzyme and working for Barrick Gold as senior manager, Assurance and Advisory Services.

Reporting to the City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Souza will be responsible for managing all business functions of the Internal Audit Division as well as assessing the City’s risk management, control and governance processes as required by both the City of Mississauga’s Internal Audit Charter, policies and procedures and external professional standards for auditing and risk management.

Souza holds a Bachelor, Physics degree from Sao Paulo University. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) and a Certified Internal Auditor with the Institute of Internal Auditors. Souza is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

Luis Souza has been selected as the City of Mississauga’s new Director of Internal Audit.
