Mississauga Employees Raise more than $178,000 for the United Way of Greater Toronto

The City of Mississauga presented the United Way of Greater Toronto with a cheque of $178,873.21 at Council yesterday. The donation is part of the City’s annual employee campaign which has raised over $3.5 million to date.

“Every year, our employees generously give back and rally our wider community to donate to the United Way to help improve the lives of people and families in need in our community,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I am proud to lead a city that understands the importance of supporting local organizations like the United Way of Greater Toronto. Given the tough current economic times many find themselves in as a result of this pandemic, this money will go a long way to help their frontlines agencies reach those who need it most.”

Throughout 2019, employees donated and raised money through fundraising initiatives including silent auctions, an internal pledge drive, paid dress-down days, bake sales and numerous other departmental events.

These events represent employee dedication to this local cause. Many participated and volunteered as United Way ambassadors, motivating and encouraging staff to participate in fundraising events across the organization.

“It is important to remember that every contribution counts. When we put all of our donations together as an organization, we can make a big impact to our community,” said Paul Mitcham, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “The United Way continues to bring our organization together. It takes all of us working together to make change and create opportunities for everyone in our community.”
