Mississauga 2021 Budget – Preliminary Forecast on June 24

2021-2024 Business Plan and Budget

Local government | June 15, 2020

The City of Mississauga’s first Budget Committee meeting for the upcoming year will be done virtually and will take place on Wednesday, June 24. The presentation is an early look at how the City plans to invest taxpayer dollars to deliver programs and services. Council will be updated on the 2020 financial position and possible revisions to 2020 spending.

Staff will present Budget Committee with an overview of the preliminary forecast for the 2021-2024 Business Plan and 2021 Budget and the impact of COVID on the 2021 budget.

“Clearly this is not a normal Budget cycle for Mississauga and other communities across Canada,” said Gary Kent, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “The legislative, economic and community conditions are continually evolving making it difficult to forecast. It is unclear if or when the Provincial and Federal Governments will provide the economic relief to municipalities which is needed to avoid depletion of our reserves, service level adjustments or future property tax increases. For this budget, we are looking at all options available for implementing an effective recovery while maintaining essential services and programs that residents rely on every day. In addition to the steps already taken to reduce this year’s financial impact, staff will be updating Budget Committee on additional measures including deferring some of our capital spending from this year.”

Virtual Meeting: Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. (following Council)

To contain the spread of COVID-19 and to protect all individuals, the Council Chamber will not be open to the public to attend Council and Committee meetings until further notice.
