Mississauga’s Chief Financial Officer Elected to the Board of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators

Today, Mississauga’s Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, Gary Kent, was elected to the Board of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).

“Senior levels of government understand that municipalities are critical to our future and this is an important moment for the sector to be strategic, organized, and clear. I am looking forward to working with the Board to advance and deliver excellence in municipal administration,” said Kent.

Kent was elected to the Board as a Member-at-Large for municipalities with a population over 100,000 during CAMA’s annual general meeting held virtually, on June 2, 2020. He will serve on the Board for a four-year term.

Kent has more than 20 years of municipal government experience and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA). He is a graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University and a professional accountant with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Kent also holds the ICD.D designation, from the Directors Education Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Through progressively senior roles, Kent has co-chaired the update of the City of Mississauga’s Strategic Plan which engaged 100,000 citizens. He has also overseen the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects including Lean as well as multiple policies and strategies such as the Long-Range Financial Plan, People Strategy, IT Master Plan, and Strategic Communications Master Plan. He has led community projects to advance a world class waterfront, downtown and education initiatives. Kent previously worked in the UK as the Finance Manager for a large private sector transit company experiencing deregulation, privatization, flotation and mergers.

In addition to CAMA, Kent’s board and committee experience includes the ACCA’s Public Sector Global Forum, the Canadian Association of Government Finance Officers (CAGFO), The One Investment Board and Sheridan College’s Professional Advisory Council. He is also the CEO of Enersource Corporation.
